The Miramar Beach Resort and Bungalows in Montecito marks Caruso Affiliated’s first entry into the hospitality and resort development arena. A natural extension of the company’s approach to retail development, which focuses heavily on service and hospitality, Caruso Affiliated plans to bring back the tradition and heritage of the Miramar hotel property by building from the ground up a new 192-room first-class, beachfront, family-friendly resort that will be a great tourist destination as well as an asset to the Montecito community and its residents.
The original Miramar, dating back to the 1870s, was, for over a century, a thriving resort spanning 14 acres of premier oceanfront property in Montecito. Closed in 2000 for a makeover that never materialized, despite changing owners twice, the property has been sitting vacant for nearly a decade.
After closing escrow on the property in early 2007, Caruso Affiliated worked closely with the community and in December 2008 secured the necessary approvals to proceed with building the new hotel. Caruso’s plan which will feature low-scale bungalows and cottages, similar to the original hotel, convention and meeting space, casual and fine dining restaurants and beach and tennis club will set the standard for luxury resorts on the California coast.
Caruso Affiliated anticipates beginning construction on the new hotel early next year.
