David B. Silva is responsible for the direct oversight and coordination of Caruso Affiliated’s legal affairs. His responsibilities include obtaining entitlements and structuring property acquisitions and financings.

Mr. Silva managed the legal team that recently won a unanimous jury verdict in favor of Caruso Affiliated. The jury awarded Caruso Affiliated $74.23 million in compensatory damages and $15 million in punitive damages against General Growth Properties for intimidating The Cheesecake Factory while the restaurant chain was exploring leasing at Caruso Affiliated’s Americana at Brand project in Glendale, California.

Prior to joining Caruso Affiliated in June 2007, Silva spent five years as an associate at Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz in New York City, specializing in real estate development, REIT mergers and acquisitions and real estate private equity. He represented Silverstein Properties in the redevelopment of the World Trade Center in New York; Morgans Hotel Group in the acquisition of the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas from Peter Morton; Apollo in the formation of Apollo Real Estate Fund V; Ventas in its acquisition of Sunrise Senior Living REIT; and Lend Lease in the sale of its U.S. companies to MSREF, GMAC and others.

Silva earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in philosophy and political science from Yale, a Master of Philosophy degree from the University of London, an MBA from Oxford as a Marshall Scholar and a law degree from Stanford.
